Social Media 101 for Independent Hotels
social media 101 for independent hotels

To be relevant on social media, independent hotels must have a creative content feed, consistent community engagement, and spend a little dough on advertising. Here are some tips on how to get the most out of posts:

1. BE SCENE, NOT JUST SEEN. Travelers are craving to check into destinations, use hashtags, and post about places that are recognizable and that show off their lifestyle. Post content that captures snippets of the hotel experience that is replicable and include a hashtag that is fun for guests to use when snapping a similar photo.

2. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE FRIENDS TO BE FRIENDLY. Effective community engagement involves consistent liking and commenting on posts from guests who geotag, hashtag, and tag the hotel. Social media users are looking to connect with brands (& yes that means hotels!), so even just a simple comment on a photo will go a long way to building a relationship with that person.

3. SPEND MORE, GET MORE. Social media advertising is no longer a nice have, it's really a must have. While organic posts will likely reach your dedicated followers, it's no secret that Instagram and Facebook have limited reach for organic posts. Boost a select number of posts per month to ensure maximum engagement and awareness.
